Rotary Club of White River

Welcome to the Rotary Club of White Rivers’ website! Our club is situated in the Lowveld of the province of Mpumalanga, South Africa, which is a premier tourist destination.

The picturesque town of White River is situated only 25 minutes from the Kruger National Park and is close to some of the most interesting gold discoveries in South African history as well as to some of the most popular tourist attractions in the country

Frances Hyson

Thank you for your interest in the Rotary Club of White River. We are a vibrant Rotary Club serving the community of White River, Mpumalanga, South Africa. We have outlined some of our projects on our website but for more up to date information on what is happening please have a look at our newsletters on the “Downloads” tab as well as our Facebook page which you can access by clicking on the link on the “Home” page.

My husband Brian and I moved to White River in 1978 with our daughter, then aged 5 months. Brian was involved in an office machine company in Nelspruit called Lowveld Business machines and I soon became involved teaching at Uplands Preparatory School.

We had both been involved in Rotaract in Johannesburg – an organization affiliated to Rotary for young people from 18 to 28. Brian joined the Nelspruit Rotary Club in 1979 and continued his work with this wonderful organization.

I was asked to join the Rotary Club of White River in 1999 and in 2001 became the first woman president of the club. Since then, the club has grown and flourished. We now have about 40 members and are extremely active with projects assisting people in need in the greater White River area.

In between our involvement in Rotary and work in the community, Brian continued to work in the business sector, moving away from office machinery to computers and the IT industry. I continued to work at Uplands for the next thirty years. Our daughter grew up and started her own practice as a clinical psychologist and is now working in White River. Her children are now students at Uplands.

We have both always had a strong commitment to service in the community hence our involvement with Rotary.

This year, along with all the other Rotary clubs in the world, we have adopted the theme “Making a Difference” and our club has embraced this with enthusiasm. In short, we have all gone “MAD”!

But Rotary is not all hard work and service, it is also fun and we enjoy many great fellowship events. We enjoy hands on work on projects and this is often followed by a fellowship function – a braai, a supper, a couple of drinks together – just a time to get together and enjoy each other’s company.

Please feel free to join us any time on a Monday evening at 6 pm at Ingwenyama Resort to join us for a meeting and see what Rotary is all about. Alternatively, you can call me on 083 235 6568 if you have any queries.

Rotary’s Four Way Test

Of the things we think, say or do:
1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?"
